Информация: Derrick Duckie Simpson, known as the Gong Gong Gullie, is the founder and leader of reggae legends Black Uhuru. Simpson later reformed Black Uhuru, leading the group to international prominence with Michael Rose and Sandra Puma Jones, alongside Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. Their powerful, bass-driven sound produced classics like Shine Eye Gal, General Penitentiary, and What Is Life.With landmark albums including Red and Anthem, Black Uhuru made history by winning the first-ever Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 1984. They toured worldwide, opening for The Rolling Stones and The Police, helping bring reggae to global audiences.Andrew Bees Beckford joined the group in 1996 and has been the lead singer for over 30 years, carrying forward Black Uhurus signature sound and live energy.With 14 studio albums, 7 dub albums, and 4 live recordings, Black Uhuru remains one of reggaes best-selling acts after Bob Marley. Red was ranked #23 on Rolling Stones 100 Greatest Albums of the 1980s. In addition to their Grammy win, theyve earned five more nominations and received the Diamond Awards of Excellence (1994).Despite decades of change,Simpson remains the constant force behind the bands legacy.
